Our History
Second Supper : La Crosse, Wisconsin

The Second Supper is a free independent weekly found in over 200 locations throughout La Crosse and Onalaska, Wis., and La Crescent, Minn.

The Second Supper was founded by Joe Gullo in the fall of 2004 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The paper was satirical in nature and was distributed on the UW-L campus for two years before growing into the La Crosse area in the summer of 2006. The paper changed its format a year later, from satire to features and entertainment coverage, under the new ownership of Mike Keith. Longtime Wisconsin journalist Roger Bartel purchased the paper in 2009 and began building on the foundation left by Keith to create a more diverse community newspaper focusing on arts, entertainment, culture, lifestyle and politics.

The Second Supper remains a student organization at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, offering students real-world experience within the print medium. The Second Supper is also distributed at Western Technical College and throughout the community at large, with especially strong distribution in the downtown entertainment and arts areas.
